Lim Keng Guan Dried Meat (Unminced) - Jln Raja Musa Aziz

The one good thing about Lim Keng Guan Dried Meat is the use of a whole piece of pork. It is then sliced into thin slivers (exaggeration here) and BBQed. The slices is even thinner than the minced meat counterpart.

There are 3 simple reasons in my preference for the former. Whole rather than minced meat taste better as there is no chance for adulteration with lower quality cuts. The texture is better. Minced meat slices tend to be lumpy, rough and breaks up unnaturally when eaten. And finally, minced meat version is sliced into thicker pieces or else it will not be able to hold up on its own.

Products: Dried Pork, Dried Beef, Dried Fish, Pork, Chicken and Fish Floss, Sausage, Sambal Roll and all kinds of dried meat with chili.

LKG Dried Meat is full-bodied in taste, the texture is excellent and the unprocessed meat structure is perfect. The only drawback - is t is a bit too sweet but on the bright side LKG used less oil than usual. 7.5/10.

The minced version was also quite devoid of oil. But I was given stock that was not top quality. It may be old stock. So I did not really enjoy this.

(There is another going by the same name in Jalan Sultan Iskandar aka Hugh Low St. I thought they are one and the same. Both are equally good. Same row with the Police Station Curry Noodles but about 15 shops away.)

Pusing Public Seafood Restaurant, Jalan Verasamy, Ipoh

This is arguably one of the best Chinese restaurant in Ipoh.

What a feast it has been! While in Ipoh we reserved the special occasion for a trip to the restaurant for a big eat. This is a famous place. Any Ipohan will vouch for the good food here. Many have gone there again and again, for birthdays, weddings and reunions. Why not when the food is exceptional. We have a saying that great food id to be had in a restaurant and not in hotels. Sometimes weddings in hotel is frowned on for the lack of good eat. You can't eat the decor right?

Yeah, yeah, yeah the ambiance is important but then the way to anyone's heart is through the stomach. So again wedding dinners in the hotels are lean pickings culinary speaking. Memorable mile-stones are so because of an event made special by the great food served!

Fantastic Kampung Chicken - Chewy but tender (how am I going to describe it). Bursting with flavours.
Cod Fish - Crisp exterior but tender interior
Roast Trotters - again crisp on the right side and tender and fall off the bone on the inside

Sin Hup Kee Restaurant (Home-Cooked Style), Jalan Leong Sin Nam

Sin Hup Kee has built a huge following on mom's cooking, home-cooked style food. Huge following, loosely translated means tasty and reasonably priced food. Personally this shop's food is beyond good, it has a clean and comfy premise, brightly lit and air-conditioned. Anyway, who wants to (or can ) argue on "mom's cooking".

Go early or else all tables will be taken. I arrived at 6:0pm and quickly organised the food. While waiting the crowds were piling in.

Nam Fatt Beef and Fish Ball Noodles, Jalan Permaisuri Bainun (formerly Jalan Kampar)

My favourite past-time in Ipoh is pigging out. What else? Stuffing myself silly with my childhood comfort food. And great and healthy stuff too. But one thing that most Ipoh residents or those dispersed to other parts of Malaysia but coming back regularly is the upgrading of these simple coffee shops stall food. Meaning its more expensive but with air-con and better and cleaner environment.

Nam Fatt is one of them. Air-con comfort is really good. Leisurely pace and without the sweat-shop kind of feeling.
Nam Fatt offers Beef Noodles and Beef Stew besides the ever popular fish balls and Yong Tau Foo. It comes in the form of all kinds of vegetables and soy products slather with a generous portion of fish paste.

And a bowl of beef noodles! The broth was light. 6/10.
Claypot Stew Beef. Its worth ordering as it is so hard to get beef in Ipoh Chinese eateries. This pot lack the zinnng confining to being average fare. I prefer it with thick sauce and more gelatinous. 6.5/10.

Another beautiful Ipoh dish. Ipoh Choy Sum that is soft almost devoid of fibers and sweet to the bite!. 8/10. And for those who loves vege 9/10. The best Ipoh Choy Sum from the farms nearby. Soft no-fibre stalks and tender packed with the esters peculiar to Choy Sum. Really missed this smell! Goes very well with Beef!
Prawn Rolls came piping hot with thick succulent prawns. You guess it the soy skin was crispy and thin allowing one to enjoy the prawns with a crunch. Really good. 9/10. Must order!
Combining fresh fish paste and bean curd skin will create wonders. The darker brown Sengkuang pieces is my favourite. Wonderful with curry noodles too!
Wow! The Yee Wat (Parang Fish Paste) was superb. Springy and pack with fresh fish aroma.
